When a person experiences brain fog they sometimes feel unorganized, unable to put their thoughts together properly, forgetful and just can’t focus on their daily activities. A lot of us experience this sometimes in our lives for various reasons, but, as we age, this brain fog can become more common.
Just like our bodies, as our brains age, they tend to be a little slower things are forgotten more often but that doesn’t necessarily mean that we have Alzheimer’s or dementia like a lot of people seem to think. Sometimes we are just a little foggy on some things in our lives.
In order to keep your mind sharper there are a few things you can do and some supplements you might be able to take that can help with the fog that sometimes comes with aging.
Make sure you are getting enough sleep. When we are asleep our brain gets that much needed down time it needs in order to regroup, as such. It takes a much needed rest for the day’s happenings so that in the morning we’ll wake up refreshed more alert. If we don’t allow our brains to have that down time we are only asking for brain fog to occur.
A lot of us need our computers to do our jobs, our phones for communicating and television for entertainment and information, but you should get less screen time when possible and allow your brain to become “unplugged” from the screens. Try reading a book or get your news and information from an actual newspaper. Your brain will thank you for it.
Working a puzzle can help to keep your mind focused on what you’re doing. Puzzles are a great way to relax as well as keep your mind busy for a while without watching television or staring at a computer screen.
Get out and get some exercise your body and brain are connected so it’s vital to keep them both healthy by getting in at least 30 minutes of exercise every day. You’ll keep your body in shape as well as your mind.
You could start practicing yoga or meditation to help reduce your stress levels. Stress as you age can contribute to brain fog both of these will relax, in turn, helping to clear up some of the fog in your brain.
Do word search, Sudoku or crossword puzzles to keep your mind sharper. All of these require you to concentrate and think about the answers required. When you are concentrating on what you are doing your focus will remain sharper.
Fish Oil is an excellent supplement because of the omega 3 fatty acids it contains. It helps with brain function and fine motor skills.
Ginkgo Biloba Extract is another supplement that can be helpful with brain fog. It has been shown to increase your energy level as well as improve your memory. It can also be used to help boost your mood, helping fight against depression and loneliness which can happen as we age.
Brain fog can also be a sign of a more serious illness or disease. Be sure to visit your doctor if brain fog becomes a constant factor in your life. It’s always better to be safe rather than sorry.
