Yes, male menopause (or “andropause”) is really a thing, whether you want to believe it or not and like female menopause, it occurs as a man ages and testosterone levels begin to decrease. Not every man will experience the signs or symptoms of male menopause, but there are plenty of men who have and will during their life.
The symptoms that occur tend to be a slow process as a man ages but some of those to watch for are:
Depression
Sleep Issues
Lowered Sex Drive
Fatigue
Bone Loss
Increased Body Fat
A blood test, done by your doctor is really the only way to know if any of these symptoms is related to low testosterone levels. Once you’ve had the testing done and know that’s what is going on there are a few things you can do naturally to help get you feeling better again.
Eat a Healthy Diet You might need to change the way you eat in order to get rid of some of the fat you might have gained due to the low testosterone. Cut back on your sugar intake and eat more fruits and vegetables.
Exercise More In order to maintain a healthy weight, you not only have to eat right but it’s important that you exercise. Exercise will help with bone loss, and will also give you more energy. It helps keep your muscles strong and your joints strong and healthy.
Seek Therapy If you are feeling depressed or just not like yourself, you might consider finding a good therapist that can help you deal with some of your depression. Having someone to talk to can help tremendously when you’re feeling down.
Natural Supplements There are supplements that can help increase your libido, but be very careful if you decide to take any type of supplement for any condition you may have. Be sure to research a product completely before taking it and talk to your doctor to make sure it’s a safe option for you. Some supplements can interfere with other drugs you might be taking for another health issue.
Lower Caffeine Intake If you are having any trouble sleeping take a look at how much caffeine you are ingesting every day it could be too much and is messing with your sleep patterns. Set your bedroom up as a place to sleep no television, no phone, cool maybe doing this can help with a lot of the issues you are having with sleep.
As a male, if you experience any of these symptoms it’s important that you talk to your doctor because some or all of these symptoms aren’t always caused by low testosterone levels and could be something medical that you need to have taken care of.
Staying healthy as you age can benefit you and will help you live a happier life during the later years in your life. There are things that simply cannot be avoided, but doing what you can to keep yourself healthy will absolutely pay off for you as you get older.
